Massachusetts Mon Amour
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts (which is the plural form of the word Massachusett, the native people who lived there. Massachusetts means "at the large hill" about the Great Blue Hill in Milton) has a lot to offer to proud residents and visitors from around the Country: from skiing and fall foliage drives in the western Berkshire Mountains to the beaches of Cape Cod and vacation islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Boston is a world-class city of top-notch cultural attractions and American Revolutionary history.
Boston has all the features and perks of a great city: theater, museums, excellent shopping, and dining. The Freedom Trail, a walking track of bricks, passes many iconic settings of the American Revolution. The Boston Commons and Public Garden are superb urban parks, the oldest in America. With its picturesque bridges (especially the ‘Salt and Pepper’ and the ‘Bunker Hill’), the Charles River separates Boston from Cambridge, home to Harvard University.
The North of Boston and Cape Ann region, where the first pilgrims and settlers touched land in the 16th century, is home to the oldest European communities in the US, including the towns of Salem, Gloucester, Newburyport, Marblehead, and Lowell. It is an area known for its art galleries, seaside beauty, and fine food. Gloucester and Newburyport have fleets for popular whale watch cruises. Among the most popular destinations, we have Salem, 17th-century witchcraft trials attract thousands of visitors every October for Halloween celebration. Lexington and Concord have outdoor museums to preserve the Revolutionary War legacy; Lowell and its historic mills are a showcase of early American industrial history.
The South of Boston region is famous for Plymouth and its historic sites, including Plymouth Rock. In the many small harbor towns and the coast, visitors can enjoy whale-watch tours while inland people can explore lavender fields and cranberry farms. Quiet beach towns and the famous Horse Neck Beach are scattered along Buzzard's Bay. New Bedford is an old nautical city famous for its whaling and maritime history sites in addition to the stunningly beautiful shores and the breathtaking sunsets for anyone to enjoy.
